About Holy Drivers
Holy Drivers started with an ordinary problem: you want to play somewhere new, but you do not know which courses are there and rarely know their names.
It should be easy to start
Most golf websites assume you already know which club you are looking for. Search more broadly and the answer is often a list of club names without geography, or a map with so many layers that the thing you wanted disappears.
Holy Drivers turns the question around. Choose a county, look at the golf near a city, or search the map directly. From there you can read about a place that looks interesting, even if you had never heard its name.
The map starts where you are
Near me is the quickest way in. The map asks for your position, shows the golf within a radius you set yourself, and orders it by distance. You do not need to know what anything is called or which county you are standing in.
The browser fetches your position once you allow it, uses it to work out distances, and stops there. It is not sent anywhere and is not kept between visits. If you would rather look somewhere other than where you are, search and the county list work exactly as before.
Three kinds of golf on one map
The map separates golf courses, driving ranges and winter golf, each with its own shape as well as its own colour. A facility with both a course and a range shows two marks on a single map point instead of appearing twice.
That matters when you are after something specific. If you only want to hit balls for an evening, a range is the answer; if you want to play indoors in February, winter golf is what you need, not the nearest eighteen holes.
Reviewed once, not guessed
The register comes from a dated assessment of open sources in which every candidate got an answer: it was included, it was set aside with a stated reason, or its details could not be confirmed. Only the included ones are published. That came to 450 golf locations out of 1,113 candidates reviewed.
Before the register was frozen, the whole body of work was reviewed a second time, county by county, by someone other than the person who built it. Places whose identity or location could not be established are written down but never appear on the map. The sources page describes the full chain.
Selected starting points, not a ranking
The county and city pages highlight golf locations with different settings and character. They show the range within a county rather than which courses are best. A forest course, a course by the sea and a short course suit different players on different days.
The complete map is always there for anyone who would rather choose for themselves.
The place comes first
Holy Drivers helps you find the golf location and understand what is there. Green fees, tee times, opening hours, course condition, visitor rules and dress codes differ from club to club and change through the season.
Publishing such a detail once is easy. Keeping it correct for 450 places takes constant attention, and a detail that has quietly gone wrong is worse than no detail at all. So we do not collect them here. Once you have chosen a place, the official link leads to what applies right now.
A project allowed to take its time
The site is free and works without accounts, advertising, tracking or consent banners. The only thing stored on your device is the language you chose, and only if you switch it yourself.
