Golf in Norrbotten County

Golf courses and practice grounds in Norrbotten are separated by long distances and by landscapes that shift between a northern town, inland woodland, river valleys and the coast. Kiruna Golf Club has nine holes near the new town centre. Open ground alternates with trees and water, while mining headframes in the background tie the round to Kiruna's urban setting. Arvidsjaur offers another nine-hole course, but here Skogssameland woodland surrounds the loop from beginning to end.

Farther east, Kalix Golf Club's named Linnébanan follows the Kalix River. Its 18 holes move between parkland, woodland and touches of links character, changing the feel of the round several times without leaving the same course. The river gives Kalix a clear sense of direction and sets it apart from the shorter northern layouts.

Jokkmokk serves a different purpose. Its driving range has no numbered course. Players remain at the hitting area to work on contact, direction and ball flight rather than moving from green to green. It is the inland choice for focused shot practice rather than a complete round.

Around Luleå, Boden and Piteå, golfers can choose among several longer arrangements. Luleå Golf Club has three named nines: Renen, Björnen and Hermelinen. Renen and Hermelinen are parkland loops, while Björnen passes through woodland. Pairing two nines changes which settings form the round. Boden Golf Club at Sävast instead follows one continuous 18-hole course beside the Lule River, alternating parkland and forest with bunkers, water and contoured greens recurring along the way. Piteå Golf Club contains three separate courses: an 18-hole main course, another nine-hole course and an independent short course that also has nine holes.

Norrbotten is not simply a choice between larger and smaller versions of the same golf. Kiruna combines woodland, water and an industrial skyline; Arvidsjaur remains immersed in the inland forest; and Kalix carries a full round through changing terrain beside the river. Luleå invites golfers to combine named loops, Boden keeps 18 holes together beside the Lule River, and Piteå brings long and short courses to one venue. The Jokkmokk range stands apart as a place for pure shot practice. The best choice depends on the setting and kind of golf a player wants, not only on distance.

Kiruna Golfklubb

Kiruna Golf Club has a nine-hole woodland course near the new town centre. Open holes alternate with trees and water, changing the surroundings several times despite the smaller hole count. Mining headframes remain visible in the background and connect the golf with Kiruna's distinctive urban landscape. The nine numbered holes make up a round in their own right rather than a practice area or half of an 18-hole course. Nature and the industrial silhouette of this northern town meet from the opening tee to the final green.

Arvidsjaurs Golfklubb

Arvidsjaur Golf Club has nine holes in the inland landscape of Skogssameland. Woodland surrounds the course from the first hole to the ninth and gives the round a consistent setting. The numbered holes form a course in their own right, not a practice ground or an abbreviated part of a larger venue. The inland forest remains close to play throughout. That woodland character distinguishes Arvidsjaur from Kiruna's mixture of open ground, water and an urban backdrop.

Kalix Golfklubb

Kalix Golf Club's named Linnébanan has 18 holes beside the Kalix River. Parkland, woodland and touches of links character alternate through the round, allowing one course to contain several clearly different landscape sections. Its position beside the river anchors the golf in eastern Norrbotten. Players choosing Kalix follow 18 holes whose surroundings change along the way rather than holding one expression from start to finish. Parkland, forest and a more open coastal feel all belong to the same continuous route.

Jokkmokk Driving Range

Jokkmokk Driving Range is an independent practice site without a numbered golf course. Golfers hit repeated balls from a designated hitting area rather than moving from hole to hole. The focus is on contact, direction and watching the flight of the ball. The range therefore serves a different purpose from the county's nine- and 18-hole courses and should not be treated as a shorter version of them. An entire visit can be devoted to shot practice at this one place in Jokkmokk.
