Golf in Västmanland County

Golf in Västmanland County has no single centre. Courses extend from Sala and Fagersta in the north to Köping and Arboga in the west, while the Västerås area brings several golf settings close to Lake Mälaren. The spread gives golfers a choice of both direction and kind of round. Some clubs devote the grounds to one 18-hole course, while others add a shorter course of five, six, seven or nine holes.

Sala Golf Club has an 18-hole course and a separate nine-hole course. At Arboga, six short holes sit beside the main 18, while Surahammar has an independent seven-hole course as its smaller alternative. All three locations support a complete round and a shorter course at the same site, but the different hole counts keep those options from feeling interchangeable. Fagersta Golf Club and Köping Golf Club instead keep outdoor play on one 18-hole course apiece.

In the northern and western parts of the county, geography provides another distinction. Sala and Fagersta anchor golf in the north. Köping and Arboga bring outdoor courses to the west, with Köping also adding a separate indoor golf venue. Surahammar's seven-hole course introduces a hole count between Arboga's six and the more familiar nine.

Courses sit closer together around Västerås, yet the rounds remain different. Västerås Golf Club has one 18-hole course with no short course beside it. Skerike combines its 18 holes with the nine-hole EnviLoopen. At Frösåker, the decision also involves the landscape. The 18-hole Stora banan moves through woodland, parkland and lakeside holes, while the separate nine-hole Linksbanan has a more open links character beside Lake Mälaren.

Västmanland therefore offers several lasting reasons to choose one location over another. Fagersta, Köping and Västerås suit golfers looking for one main course. Sala, Arboga, Surahammar and Skerike provide a shorter round alongside 18 holes. Frösåker combines different course formats with a marked change between tree-framed ground, open links character and the presence of Lake Mälaren. Köping Indoorgolf completes the picture with play and practice under cover at a separate location.

Sala Golfklubb

Sala Golf Club lies in northeastern Västmanland and has two separate courses. The main course contains 18 holes, while the smaller course has nine. Golfers can choose a complete round or a shorter course at the same location. That distinguishes Sala from Fagersta and Köping, where outdoor golf follows one 18-hole course without a shorter alternative beside it. At Sala, the nine-hole course has an enduring role of its own rather than serving as a handful of extra holes.

Fagersta Golfklubb

Fagersta Golf Club is the northwesternmost of the selected golf locations in Västmanland. The club has one 18-hole course, with the complete round following the same sequence. That differs from Sala and Surahammar, where a separate shorter course accompanies the main round. For golfers, the decision is direct: Fagersta concentrates on a conventional full round. Its location also gives the northern part of the county a course well away from the cluster around Västerås.

Arboga Golfklubb

Arboga Golf Club lies in southwestern Västmanland and brings two courses together at one golf location. The main course has 18 holes. Beside it is a separate six-hole short course, a less common hole count than the nine-hole courses found elsewhere in the county. The smaller course supports a round of its own rather than serving as loose extra holes from the main course. Arboga therefore gives golfers a direct choice between a conventional full round and a much shorter six-hole outing.

Surahammars Golfklubb

Surahammar Golf Club in western Västmanland has an 18-hole course and a separate seven-hole short course. The smaller course supports a round of its own and distinguishes Surahammar from the county's other course pairings. Arboga has six short holes, while Sala and Skerike have nine. Surahammar sits between them with a course format that is unusual in the county. Golfers can choose between a complete round and a concentrated shorter game at the same location.

Köpings Golfklubb

Köping Golf Club has one 18-hole course in western Västmanland. The entire outdoor round follows the same course, unlike Arboga and Surahammar where shorter courses sit beside the main round. Köping Indoorgolf belongs to a separate location, so it does not form part of the club's numbered holes. Together, the outdoor course and the indoor venue give the town two distinct settings: a conventional round outside and play or practice under cover.

Köping Indoorgolf

Köping Indoorgolf is a place for golf under cover. It is separate from the 18-hole course at Köping Golf Club and is not part of the outdoor round. Play and practice take place in a contained indoor setting, without a natural course landscape or a fixed number of outdoor holes. Together, the two locations give Köping both a conventional numbered course and a separate indoor option, but they serve different roles and remain distinct golf places.
