Golf in Jämtland County

Golf in Jämtland is closely connected with mountains, rivers, lakes and woodland. Åre Golf Club's 18 holes cross terrain where the Indalsälven River follows parts of the course and streams, marsh, mountain birch and open ground alternate. The round grows from those changes in the land. At Ljusnedal, Funäsfjällens Golf Course also has 18 holes, but several follow Lake Ljusnedalssjön and bring the water back into play throughout the day.

Klövsjö-Vemdalen Golf Club has both an 18-hole course and the nine-hole Fäbobanan. The shorter course is an alternative in its own right for golfers wanting less play without leaving the mountain district. Rossön Golf Club creates nine or 18 holes in another way. Nine greens are approached from double tees, producing a longer round through new angles to the same targets. Narrow woodland fairways reward careful direction.

The range continues around Östersund. Östersund-Frösö Golf Club has an 18-hole course and a separate nine on Frösön. The larger course alternates between parkland and woodland on a south-facing hillside, with Lake Storsjön and the Jämtland mountains nearby. Norderön Golf Club follows a complete 18-hole course on a rural island in Storsjön. Sandnäset Golf at Dvärsätt instead has 13 holes in undulating woodland and parkland.

Mountain golf in Jämtland is therefore not one kind of round. Åre keeps the river close, Funäsfjällen stays beside the lake, and Klövsjö provides both a full and a shorter course. Rossön uses the same nine greens for rounds with two different hole counts. Around Östersund, golfers can choose Frösön's two courses, Norderön's island setting or Sandnäset's unusual 13-hole circuit.

The differences are meaningful for the golfer. A complete day beside Ljusnedalssjön, nine holes on Fäbobanan or 13 at Dvärsätt suit different plans. At the same time, the Jämtland landscape returns through river, lakes, woodland and mountain views. A journey can begin with both the surroundings and the desired hole count, without treating any course as a smaller copy of another.

Åre Golfklubb

Åre Golf Club's 18-hole course lies in a landscape of woodland, streams, marsh and open ground. The Indalsälven River passes several holes, while mountain birch and views towards the peaks recur around the course. Those changes remain noticeable from the first hole to the eighteenth, placing the upland environment within the golf rather than leaving it as distant scenery. River, wet ground and mountain vegetation give the course a clear local character.

Funäsfjällens Golfklubb

Funäsfjällens Golf Course has 18 holes at Ljusnedal. Several lie beside Lake Ljusnedalssjön, bringing the water close to play rather than leaving it as a distant view. Mountains surround the course, while the shoreline gives several holes a clear direction through the terrain. Golf beside the lake and the broader upland views define the place throughout the day. All 18 holes belong to one course with the water as a recurring neighbour.

Klövsjö-Vemdalens Golfklubb

Klövsjö-Vemdalen Golf Club has two courses at Klövsjö. The main course contains 18 holes, while the named Fäbobanan has nine. Fäbobanan has its own beginning, route and finish, so it is not one half of the 18-hole course. Groups can choose between longer and shorter rounds without leaving the same place in the southern mountain district. Two independent courses also give the nine-hole day an identity of its own.

Rossöns Golfklubb

Rossön Golf Club uses nine greens and two sets of tees for rounds of nine or 18 holes. On the second circuit, the same greens are played from different starting points rather than from a separate back nine. Narrow fairways lie in woodland where direction becomes especially important. The additional tees change the approach towards each green, giving the 18-hole round more variation than two identical circuits would provide.
