Golf in Kronoberg County

Golf in Kronoberg belongs to the inland landscape of Småland, where woodland, former farmland and lakes often meet within a short distance. The county lacks the broad horizon of the coast, but replaces it with repeated transitions between trees, parkland, water and traces of cultivated ground. Its courses can therefore feel different while retaining a clear regional relationship. Each responds to a landscape that is already divided into intimate and open spaces.

Älmhult Golf Club demonstrates these transitions particularly well. The eighteen holes of Äskya move between parkland and forest, while stone walls, ditches, water and old agricultural ground remain visible within the shape of the site. Lagan uses a different kind of woodland. Its main course crosses gently rolling, open stands of pine and birch, with water entering several holes. A separate nine-hole course carries the same open mixed woodland through a shorter round.

At Klavreström, Uppvidinge Golf Club follows one continuous nine-hole course in the county's northeast. Around Växjö, golfers encounter more courses and a wider spread of hole counts. Växjö Golf Club brings parkland and forest to the edge of Lake Helgasjön, Glasriket combines eighteen and twelve holes, and Alvesta joins wooded and parkland passages at Kronobergshed.

No single hole count defines Kronoberg. The common thread is the way Småland ground changes from one round to another. At Älmhult, stone walls, ditches and former fields remain visible between parkland and forest. Lagan's pine and birch woodland admits more light, while Lake Helgasjön repeatedly meets the main course at Växjö. At Kronobergshed, Alvesta moves between open parkland and woods within one continuous round.

The shorter courses reveal those settings on a different scale rather than copying the main routes. Uppvidinge gathers nine holes at Klavreström, Glasriket places a twelve-hole course beside its eighteen, and Växjö adds six holes next to the lakeside main course. From old field boundaries in the south to Helgasjön and the central woodlands, the ground crossed by each course gives the county's golf its local character.

Älmhults Golfklubb

Älmhult Golf Club's eighteen-hole Äskya course moves between parkland and forest in a rural Småland setting. Traces of earlier land use remain in stone walls, ditches and cultivated ground, while water changes the character of other sections. The settings follow one another without feeling disconnected. As a result, the round reads as a journey through a worked inland landscape rather than a course placed on an anonymous site. Those surviving field patterns give Äskya a particularly local character.

Lagans Golfklubb

Lagan Golf Club's eighteen-hole course crosses gently rolling, open mixed woodland dominated by pine and birch. The trees frame the route without closing it in completely, and water comes close to play on several holes. A separate nine-hole course sits alongside the main course. The main course and the nine let golfers meet the same Småland woodland during both a complete and a shorter round. The open woodland leaves more light and space than a closely enclosed forest course.

Uppvidinge Golfklubb

Uppvidinge Golf Club has one nine-hole course at Klavreström in northeastern Kronoberg. Every hole belongs to the same continuous route, so the round remains on one course rather than being assembled from separate loops. Its location places golf firmly in inland Småland, away from the open coast and from the larger multi-course properties around Växjö. Klavreström and its nine holes carry the whole experience without a secondary course beside them.
